Language. These terms are drawn up in French. The French version, "Conditions d'utilisation du site Web", is the original and is made available first. This English version is a translation provided for convenience. If the two versions differ, the French version prevails.

These terms govern your use of rojiresearch.com and the pages we publish under it. By using the site, or by registering for the beta, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.

1. What this site is

This site documents Roji, a research and development programme of Roji films Inc. It describes work in progress. The site is free. Nothing here is an offer to sell, a price, a promise of availability, a release commitment, or a guarantee of performance. Figures, benchmarks and validation records describe only the specific tests we ran, on the hardware and scenes named with them. Your results may differ.

2. The beta programme

Registering through the site is free. It is a request to take part, not a contract to supply software. We choose who joins, and we may decline a request or end a participation at any time. If you register on behalf of a studio or other organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to do so.

Access to any Roji build requires a separate agreement. We will give it to you before you receive the build, and it applies only once you accept it. That agreement governs the software itself. These terms govern the site.

3. Our content

The text, images, video, diagrams, layout and code of this site belong to Roji films Inc. This does not include third-party material, such as the datasets listed in section 4, which belongs to its owners. You may read the site, link to it, and quote short extracts with attribution to Roji films Inc. and a link back. Without our written permission, you may not copy the site or substantial parts of it, republish it, or use it to train machine learning systems. Nothing in this section limits fair dealing or any other use the law allows.

4. Third-party datasets shown here

Some captures show public 3D datasets that we use for research, software development and benchmarking. Each dataset belongs to its owner and is used under its own licence:

  • The Moana Island Scene, © 2017-2022 Disney Enterprises, Inc., used under the Moana Island Scene License, which allows use for research and software development, including benchmarking. The name "Moana" is used only to identify the dataset.
  • "Animal Logic ALab", © 2022 Animal Logic Pty Limited, all rights reserved, used under the ASWF Digital Assets License v1.1.
  • The Open Chess Set, by Moeen Sayed and Mujtaba Sayed, published by the Academy Software Foundation, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Our captures show it rendered by Roji, with our own lighting, framing and, in some cases, materials.

These licences apply to us. They give you no rights through this site. If you want to use a dataset, obtain it from its owner under its licence. The owners of these datasets have not reviewed, endorsed or sponsored Roji, and are not affiliated with Roji films Inc. Other product and company names on the site belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.

5. Your use of the site

Do not attempt to break into the site or its services, disrupt them, probe them for weaknesses without our written permission, scrape them at a rate that degrades them, or use them to send anything unlawful. If you have found a security problem, tell us at [email protected] and give us reasonable time to fix it.

6. What you give us

If you send us feedback, notes or bug reports, you keep any rights you have in them. You give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide and permanent licence to use them to develop and document Roji. We do not have to use them. Do not send confidential material that you are not free to share, and do not send anyone else's personal information. If you take part in the beta, the beta agreement governs feedback about the software.

7. Links out

We link to other sites, including the research record, dataset licences and standards bodies. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content. A link is not an endorsement.

8. No warranty, and limits of liability

The site is free and provided as it is. We try to keep it accurate and available, but we do not promise that it is free of errors or that it will always be available.

Our liability is limited only as far as the law allows:

  • We never exclude or limit our liability for bodily or moral injury, or for material injury caused by our intentional or gross fault (Civil Code of Québec, article 1474).
  • If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms excludes or limits a right or remedy that the Consumer Protection Act (Quebec) or other consumer law gives you. Any part of this section that such a law does not allow does not apply to you.
  • Subject to the two points above, and only if you use the site for business purposes, we are not liable for indirect loss, and our total liability to you relating to the site is limited to CAD 100.

9. Privacy

Our privacy notice explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

10. Law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and the laws of Canada that apply there. If you are a consumer who lives outside Quebec, this choice does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the law of the place where you live.

The courts of the judicial district of Montreal have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you may always bring a claim before the court of the place where you live, and this clause cannot be used to deprive you of that right.

11. Changes

We may change these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. A change applies only from the date it is posted, never to past use. If a change significantly affects people who have registered for the beta, we will tell them by email at least 30 days before it applies to them, and they may withdraw their registration at no cost.

12. General

If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a clause right away, we do not give up the right to enforce it later.
